Tacoma Community College offers basic education classes and vocational certificates in Information Technology.  Other programs include Partners in Parenting, Stress and Anger Management, Job Hunter, and Healthy Relationships.  There are also seminars available to assist in career planning, family communication, personal relationships and preparing for release.  Chemical Dependency programs provide outpatient and relapse prevention therapy for offenders with drug-related convictions.  Employment opportunities include food service, maintenance, and grounds keeping.  In addition, DNR offender work crews participate in forest restoration, park cleanup, fishery projects, and fighting forest fires.  Volunteers at rebuildingfamilies.org can provide some assistance with re-entry. Girl Scout Totem Council offer the Girl Scout Beyond Bars Program, where offender mothers act as leaders to provide craft and educational projects for their daughters.

Facility History

Mission Creek was opened in 1960 as a youth camp on land leased from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).  Prior to construction of the camp, the site was forest land.  The facility sits deep in the Tahuya Peninsula woods.  The Mission Creek Youth Forest Camp originally housed 45 male juveniles.  When the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration no longer needed the facility, DOC took over the lease.  MCCCW opened on April 13, 2005, starting with 80 inmates.
