The Twin Rivers Unit (TRU) opened in 1984 and houses medium and MI3-custody levels.  TRU has four living units; two MI3-custody units and two medium-custody units, each housing approximately 200 offenders.  TRU is home to the Sex Offender Treatment Program.  This is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation and is part of the Department’s commitment to provide treatment for up to 200 sex offenders at a time.  All adult male sex offenders in Washington prisons may volunteer for the program.  Offenders enter treatment when they are within 18 months of release and are expected to continue receiving treatment in the community upon release.

Programs

Edmonds Community College provides basic education and vocational programs including information technology, graphic arts, computer services and parenting.  Programs include religious programming, programs provided by volunteers, contracted programs such as Getting It Right and Job Hunter, family friendly programs and recreation programs.  An intensive outpatient program is offered at TRU.  Participants are primarily Drug Offense Sentence Alternative (DOSA) offenders for whom the Department is mandated to offer treatment.  Work assignments include Class III janitorial, food service, plant maintenance, graphic arts, clothing room, recreation, clerical, library and grounds maintenance.
