What does the Pre-Employment Testing look like?

DAY 1 — PRESENTATION, TESTING AND INTERVIEWS

  1. Registration
  2. Introduction
  3. Presentation
  4. A Day in the Life of a Correctional Officer
  5. Group Activity
  6. Essay questions
  7. Testing – psychological and drug
  8. Individual interviews
  9. Get a Statement of Fitness Form to take to your doctor (The cost of the doctor appointment is the responsibility of the applicant – you will not be reimbursed.)

Please Note: If you successfully complete the steps above, you may receive a Conditional Job Offer contingent upon drug and background screening and a psychological evaluation.

DAY 2 — PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVIEW - scheduled about 1 week later

  1. Interview one-on-one with a licensed psychologist

Candidates, who successfully pass the drug and psychological testing, will then begin the Correctional Worker Core Academy. The Correctional Worker Core Academy will require a certain level of physical ability.

PHYSICAL ABILITY

Washington State Penitentiary Tower 1

Employment as a Correctional Officer requires the successful completion of the Correctional Worker Core Academy sponsored by the Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC).

Successful completion of the Correctional Officers Academy requires that each of the attendees pass several classes that require physical ability.  These classes include Tactical Aerobics, Control Tactics and Self Defense.
