PRESS RELEASE: DOC will suspend certain services starting July 1 in the unlikely event the Legislature does not enact state budgets by June 30.
Released June 23, 2015
The Washington State Legislature has not yet approved state operating and capital budgets for the 2015–17 biennium, which begins July 1. If the Legislature does not enact budgets by June 30, state agencies will have to implement full or partial shutdowns.
While we still expect the budgets to be approved by June 30, Department of Corrections has been working with the state Office of Financial Management to develop contingency plans. Go to the Office of Financial Management's website to see a summary of all state agency plans and related information.
In the unlikely event that a shutdown is necessary, we have identified services we will have to suspend until the 2015–17 budgets are enacted. Those services are listed below.
- Public Records Suspension
- Prison operations will be reduced and community corrections will be limited to supervision of Interstate Compact offenders.
- New offenders will be kept in county jails.
- Monies received for offenders through the mail, JPay and Western Union will not be processed after June 29, 2015. Monies received through the mail will be held at the facility for deposit once government operations resume.
