Watch in Real Time How Much Solar Energy is Used at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                     April 21, 2009

CONNELL, Franklin County – The public can now see online in real time how much energy is produced by solar panels at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center.

Building V of the new facility expansion has 135 grant-funded solar panels measuring 6 by 19 feet. Each produces 576 watts for a total power output of 77.76 kW, or enough electricity to power about 518 televisions.

This energy production is monitored and streamed in real time to http://coyoteridge.rem-systems.com/.

The Web site, maintained by Solar Integrated Technologies, also provides information on how solar power works to convert sunlight into energy.

The Coyote Ridge expansion was constructed with a focus on making Washington prisons more sustainable and energy efficient. Other sustainability features at the facility include energy and water efficiencies such as the reuse of laundry water, pollution prevention through recycling construction scrap and the use of alternative transportation during construction.
