2009 Annual Department of Corrections Award Winners Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                     May 6, 2009

OLYMPIA - The Department of Corrections is recognizing 85 employees and volunteers across the state for their excellent performance and accomplishments during the past year.

A ceremony honoring the award recipients in Eastern Washington will be hosted May 7 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake.  A ceremony honoring recipients from Western Washington will be hosted May 19 at the Girl Scouts Center in Dupont.

Once a year, DOC’s employees nominate co-workers and volunteers whose performance and commitment to DOC’s goals and mission has been exemplary.

“I am consistently impressed by the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by those who work in the Department,” said DOC Secretary Eldon Vail.  “Working in this field can be stressful and dangerous at times and it is especially important to recognize those who are at their best in difficult circumstances.”

Vail said that while we honor the award winners, it’s crucial to remember that ultimate success in the Department is not achievable without a tremendous effort from each and every staff member, volunteer and community partner.

In addition to the award winners, many more DOC employees were nominated for the honor.

Some employees were selected for special recognition by a Statewide Recognition Committee. They are:

  • Cliff Johnson, Clallam Bay  Corrections Center (Clallam), Health Services Staff of the Year
