Airway Heights Corrections Center - Visitation Building
The new Visitation Building at Airway Heights Corrections Center near Spokane achieved a LEED Silver Certification for sustainable design from the US Green Building Council. Project Manager Anna Crickmer was notified of the certification Oct. 13.
The project received bonus points for the DOC's non-smoking policy, and because Airway Heights Corrections Center is seriously pro-active about its use of green cleaning products. The AHCC management allows only five products for cleaning – four are sustainable and one is a disinfectant, used only where needed.
The visitation Building is a 6,103-square-foot structure with a large, open area and a children’s area on one side that features soft flooring. The open visitation area is used for programming during the week and visitation on weekends. Bob Kacel of General Administration managed the project during design. The project cost $1.975 million, and was completed in July 2008.
