Victim Services - Services We Offer

Notifications

Victims, witnesses and other concerned community members enrolled in the Victim Services Program will receive information when offenders convicted of a violent, sex, felony harassment or serious drug crime move through the prison system toward eventual release.

The notifications include: release during appeals, certain types of escorted leaves, transfers to work release, escape and return to custody, release to the community, and offender death during incarceration.

For cases involving sex offenses or Dangerously Mentally Ill Offenders (DMIO), release planning notification will also be provided to enrollees.  Release planning notification includes proposed/denied release addresses.

Community concerns regarding release planning

Individuals can communicate directly to the Victim Services Program regarding current or future safety concerns. Individuals may also voice concerns relating to the release planning of offenders. This information helps in determining whether the proposed release plan for the offender is acceptable.

Safety planning

Assistance with safety planning is provided by Victim Services Program staff when offenders classified as high risk are getting ready to release back to the community. The "Victim Wrap Around" process brings community resources together to assist the victim in developing a safety plan around the offender's reentry into the community.

Victim/offender meetings

At the request of the victim, a facilitated meeting may occur between the victim and the offender of their crime. This meeting occurs while the offender is in confinement within the Department of Corrections.  Contact the Victim Services Program for more information about this process.

Community Victim Liaisons (CVLs)

The CVLs are Victim Service Program staff who provide support at the local level as well as training and assistance to other Department of Corrections staff. CVLs facilitate safety planning meetings through the "Victim Wrap Around" process prior to high-risk offenders returning to the community from incarceration.
