Black History throughout America

While there are numerous moments in American black history that greatly impact our society, here are a few that have had a lasting influence.

1813 Nat Turner’s Revolt

Considered the only affective slave rebellion in U.S. history

1863 Civil War and Emancipation

President Lincoln issued a proclamation declaring all slaves “shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.”

1865 The 13th Amendment

Slavery was officially abolished constitutionally

1954 Brown v. Board of Education

The Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in public schools violated the 14th Amendment

1964 Civil Rights Act

President Lyndon Johnson pushed the legislation through Congress after JFK’s death

1978 Affirmative Action

Policies and initiatives aimed at compensating for past discrimination

1995 Million Man March

2008 Barack Obama Elected President

2013 Black Lives Matter
