PRESS RELEASE: Death of Incarcerated Individual at Washington State Penitentiary Under Investigation

Contact Rochelle Stephens (email) Washington State Penitentiary, Department of CorrectionsWALLA WALLA — Detectives with the Walla Walla Police Department (WWPD) are investigating the death of an incarcerated individual found deceased at approximately 1:05 p.m. PST at the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) in Walla Walla.
The incarcerated individual was found deceased in a shower in one of the close custody units at the facility. Staff attempted life saving measures upon discovery, before turning the case over to the Walla Walla Police Department. The incarcerated individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The area of the incident has been secured, and the facility is on restricted movement. All inquiries regarding the investigation should be referred to WWPD.
